Living the Dream on Mount Everest
Baz fulfilled a teenage dream by climbing Mount Everest soon after he was crippled in a skiing fall that broke his back in two places. Two months later, feeling ill and poorly acclimatised to the rarefied air at high altitude, Baz astonished himself - and his team mates. He gave it “his best shot” and finally reached the summit over a 6 day period. En route he climbed from camp 1 to camp 3 in a day, bypassing camp 2. He reached the summit from the top camp on May 24th ’04 in just over six hours and from here, after 30 minutes on top, he retreated to the relative safety of camp 1, descending over 1800m to conclude an 18 hour day on the move, fuelled by half a chocolate bar and one litre of fluid. He was battered but elated. This personal success was marred by the deaths of six climbers on the mountain that week.

Spanning 25 years of adventures across 4 continents and 22 expeditions, An Everest Journey is Baz’s story of achieving the dream of climbing Mount Everest. His perspective is flavoured by the many roles he's undertaken on diverse expedition projects as a leader, geographer, climber, diver and management consultant.
